Business Continuity Planning according to BSI 100-4

Business processes keep getting more complex and interwoven. Operational interruptions may lead to noticeable impacts even far away from their point of origin, jeopardizing the existence of an organization if lasting for a longer time. "Classic" IT Service Continuity Planning does not help much here, because it is concentrating on restoring server machines and applications whereas the impact on business processes is not taken sufficiently into consideration.

The 2B Advice approach is considering business continuity planning as a management discipline placed in the organisation's overall risk provisioning. The target is to ensure that the core processes (value creation processes) of an organization can be kept operative under all circumstances, even in cases of outages or desasters and if necessary, on a predefined minimum level. The holistic approach covers both internal factors (organization, IT infrastructure, information and decision chains, ...) and external factors ( customers suppliers, environmental and social factors).
