Under the chairmanship of Hajo Bickenbach (2B Advice GmbH) the CEN Workshop eEHIC (electronic European Health Insurance Card) has successfully finalized his work on 10th of March 2009 with an unanimous voting. The result is an interoperability specification that allows for support of existing legacy cards as well as newly defined ones. All major Health Insurance Card projects in the EU, EFTA and Switzerland support the resulting CEN Workshop Agreement as the technical basis for a foreseeable new electronic version of the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) which is already in the wallets of more than 150 million European Citizens. The work was carried out for GKV Spitzenverband DVKA and in close cooperation with gematik.
