Problems with bogus twitter accounts persist
As reported by heise.de on September 17, 2009 and Telegraph.co.uk on September 21, the problem of bogus twitter accounts remains virulent. Both sources cite several cases in which fake messages have been posted to the twitter world from accounts pertaining to belong to celebrities. Although the legal position on this is not yet 100% clear, twitter has been seen to be as cooperative as possible whenever those who fall victim report the misuse of their name or image.
Companies are therefore also being urged to keep a close eye on what is being "twittered" about them and by whom. One reason for this is so that they can intervene in discussions where necessary to put the record straight, but companies are also being advised to remain vigilant in order to minimize any damage caused as a result of public messages posted in their name.
