What Are the Requirements for the Data Protection Training?

Since May 2018, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) has been required by law to appoint a data protection officer. This serves as a contact, consultant, and supervisor that the organization complies with data protection laws such as the GDPR and the Federal Data Protection Act (BDSG). But what are the requirements for training as a data protection officer?

No official vocational training or courses have been offered to train a data protection officer, but since data protection officers are compulsory for many companies and are therefore punishable by the GDPR with high fines, many are dependent on it, which leads to the fact that there are many opportunities for further training available. This has the advantage that data protection beginners as well as experienced users can get into this important position. But there is a high international need for data protection officers. Since the EU has its own data protection law, experienced DSB are recruited and work more for the EU because of higher salaries and attractive benefits.

It is recommended that your DPO be given additional training to provide a deep understanding of the GDPR and the roles of a DPO to help the company comply with European GDPR laws. So you will learn to be independent consultants and it will help them prepare for possible disasters. Your data protection officer not only has expertise, but also practical knowledge

A data protection officer should have some basic knowledge of IT and data protection law before this training. Basically, every employee can start a data protection officer training, in the expectation that there is no conflict of interest. According to the present certification, internal and external data protection officers only differ in their experience. External DPOs often have more experience with more difficult cases.

As far as there are several data protection officer training opportunities; the TÜV, DEKRA and also the IHK offer longer seminars on data protection, in which data protection knowledge can be acquired within a week.

These seminars on data protection officer training deal with the practical implementation of data protection according to GDPR and BDSG, data protection and data security, employee data and its data protection and customer data and its data protection.

After completing these seminars, its participants are certified as data protection officers in accordance with the Data Protection Act and can be employed as internal data protection officers in their company or as external data protection officers.
